Latest times
Do you want to break through to new levels of fitness?
Is distance running boring?
Do you need inspiration from new running mates?
Ariki Wednesday Efforts (AWE) training nights may be just what you need.
What is AWE training?
AWE is a session of multiple interval runs with rest and recovery in between. All effort runs are timed with results emailed out later in the evening of the session.
Training this way enables you to:
Enjoy the buzz of harder and faster running.
Keep your mates and rivals within sight and challenge range.
Socialise while recovering between efforts.
The secret to improving fitness is motivators and group sessions like AWE give you that extra push.
Who is it for?
AWE is a community fitness initiative from the Ariki Athletic and Harrier Club to support healthy activity. All community members are welcome. You don’t have to be a member of Ariki. The sessions are designed to enable anyone of any ability can do them and benefit, including beginners. They are ideal for those who need to do run training but who don’t enjoy distance running or find it boring. All can benefit from this form of focused aerobic training away from usual sporting venues.
Where?
Bayfield Park – south end, during summer daylight saving hours.
Kensington Oval – south end, during winter.
When?
Wednesday evenings 6.00pm till 7.00pm.
You can start your session anytime within that period.
Session Details:
AWE sessions involve running around the perimeter of Bayfield Park in an out and back format, or on the Princes Street footpath during winter at the Oval. A new run or effort starts every 5 minutes. Runners run down the course and turn at the mark suited to their fitness and training ambitions. They then run back to where they started through the finish chute to have their time taken. Further on through the chute they scan the bar code on their wrist to record a result.
What does it cost?
Your first three sessions are free so you can try AWE to see if it’s right for you. After that the fee is $2.00 per session or $20.00 for 12 sessions. Sessions are free for Ariki Club members.
Facilities:
At Bayfield Park the Ariki Clubrooms in the Guthrie Pravillion are open for changing, toilets and showers, also for light refreshment afterwards. During winter toilets are available at the Oval.
